Strong + Gentle

I spent the past four days in Colorado hiking and staring out at the beautiful, rugged mountains.  There's just something so strong and mighty about Colorado, something weathered but majestic.  At one point in the week, my Dad, brother and I hiked a mountain called Chief, and at the top I met the most beautiful, hearty 82 year old woman.  She wasn't even breathing hard at 11,709 ft. ASL  (um, yours truly was), she smiled and conversed with us about the surrounding mountains, her life living among them and about her grandchildren.  Her face was heavily creased but her blue eyes were bright.  I so want to be that woman someday, calmly standing atop a mountain, surrounded by God's creation, beautiful from my heart.

This is why I love elderly people; their stories, their strength, their honesty.  I think I may need to adopt some grandparents soon.  Adding that to my listography!

And...pretty views!

  1. That looks breathtaking! ( Literally!) LOL, I went to Bishop in California for a couple of days and did one 5 mile hike and one 6 mile hike... so tiring but so worth it when you get up there! Looks like a great time! There we some elderly people up there as well, so nice!
